About Do Dham Yatra
Introduction:
The Do Dham Yatra refers to the pilgrimage to two of the most revered Hindu temples in Uttarakhand: Kedarnath and Badrinath. These temples hold immense religious significance and are part of the Char Dham Yatra, which also includes Gangotri and Yamunotri.
Significance:
Kedarnath Temple:
Location: Situated in the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini River.
Altitude: 3,583 meters (11,755 feet).
Significance: Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva and is considered one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism. According to legend, the temple was built by the Pandavas and is believed to be more than 1,000 years old.
Highlights: The temple is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, and the trek to the temple offers stunning views of the Himalayan range. The temple’s evening Aarti is a spiritually enriching experience.
Badrinath Temple:
Location: Situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River in the Chamoli district.
Altitude: 3,300 meters (10,827 feet).
Significance: Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the 108 Divya Desams, sacred shrines for Vaishnavites. The temple is said to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.
