Location: Rudranath Mahadev Temple is situated at an altitude of approximately 2,286 meters (7,500 feet) above sea level, in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
Panch Kedar: Similar to Madhyamaheshwar Mahadev Temple, Rudranath is also one of the Panch Kedar temples. It is considered the third temple in the sequence among the five.
Legend: According to Hindu mythology, after the battle of Mahabharata, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva’s blessings. Lord Shiva, wanting to avoid them, took the form of a bull and dived into the ground. His body parts appeared at five different locations, including Rudranath, where his face is believed to have appeared.
Architecture: The temple architecture is typically Himalayan, with stone and wood construction. It reflects the traditional style of temples found in the region, nestled amidst the natural beauty of the Garhwal Himalayas.
Accessibility: Rudranath is accessible via a trek of about 21 kilometers from the village of Sagar, which is the nearest roadhead. The trek is considered moderately difficult, passing through scenic landscapes and offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks.
