यमुनोत्री माता यमुना का उद्गम स्थल है। पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, यमुना जी यमराज की बहन हैं, इसीलिए यहाँ स्नान करने से 'अकाल मृत्यु' का भय समाप्त हो जाता है।
यहाँ माता गंगा ने पहली बार धरती को स्पर्श किया था। भागीरथ की कठोर तपस्या के बाद गंगा जी को भगवान शिव ने अपनी जटाओं में बांधकर पृथ्वी पर उतारा था।
पांडवों द्वारा स्थापित 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में सबसे प्रमुख धाम। यहाँ महादेव 'नंदी' के कूबड़ (Hump) के रूप में पूजे जाते हैं।
सतयुग का पवित्र धाम जहाँ भगवान विष्णु ने तपस्या की थी। यहाँ माता लक्ष्मी ने 'बेर' (Badri) वृक्ष का रूप लेकर उनकी रक्षा की थी।

चारों धामों की ऊंचाई अलग-अलग है (7,000 फीट से 11,700 फीट तक)। यमुनोत्री और केदारनाथ में सबसे ज्यादा ठंड होती है। अपनी यात्रा के अनुसार पैकिंग और समय का सही चुनाव करें।
